このくらい通じて欲しいと思う英語たち

例えば、英語を全然知らない年配の方には、
こんな単純な英語すら通じない。

●●カメラ●●
これ、義理ばぁばとのやりとりで、何度言い直したことか。
camera と言えば、 caméra （仏語でビデオハンディカム）と思われる。
もちろん正しくは appareil-photo

●●ノーパソ●●
は、和製英語のさらに略語だから通じないとして、
正しくは、laptop ですが、これがまた通じない。
personal computer でも首をかしげる人が。
ordinateur です。 ノーパソだから portable をつけてordinateur portable。

●●キーボード●●
keyboard で通じそうでしょ？
それがね、分かってくれないから驚き。
clavier です。

●●アイロン●●
これは、義理母とのやりとりで、こっちに来てすぐ覚えたけど、
iron ではなく、長ったらしく fer à repasser と言いませう。。。


自国の言葉に誇りを持つことはいいことです。
でも、英語をもうちょっと受け入れるフレキシブルな姿勢も、今後生きていく上で大切ですぞ

・・・って、本人を目の前にしてないから言えるんだけどね。
